The mechanics
Back your team to win with the 2Up bookmaker. Lay them on the exchange at the same time. Three scenarios play out:
1) Team wins outright — bookmaker pays, exchange loses. Net position: qualifying loss (~£0.50 on £20).
2) Team draws or loses without going 2 ahead — bookmaker loses, exchange wins. Net position: qualifying loss (~£0.50).
3) Team goes 2 goals ahead then draws or loses — bookmaker pays (2Up triggers), exchange also wins. Net profit: usually £5–£15 per fixture.
Where 2Up triggers most often
Home favourites priced 2.0–3.0 in the Premier League and Championship. Strong home sides going 2-0 ahead is a common pattern, and late collapses to 2-2 or 2-3 happen enough times per season to make the offer +EV.
Cup ties (FA Cup, League Cup) sometimes offer better prices but are excluded from some 2Up promotions. Check the terms every time.
Expected value
Rough long-run figures: a favourite priced ~2.5 goes 2-0 ahead in ~30% of fixtures, and the offer triggers (i.e. they don't win) in ~5–10% of the total. That's £10–£15 EV per fixture across a season.
You'll run through losing runs of 10–15 qualifiers with no trigger. That's normal variance, not a broken offer.
Kelly's tips
- ✦Target home favourites priced 2.0–3.0 — the 2-goal lead is common but late collapses happen enough to trigger the offer.
- ✦Check the offer applies to the exact competition. Some 2Up promotions exclude cup ties.
- ✦Combine with a bookmaker offering acca insurance on the same fixture — you stack two independent EV lines on one match.
Common mistakes
- ✕Backing a favourite too short — the trigger is common, but the qualifying loss is bigger.
- ✕Missing the opt-in on some bookmakers.
- ✕Placing on an in-play market — 2Up usually applies to pre-match Match Result only.
FAQs
How often does 2Up trigger?
Roughly 5–15% of matches where the favourite is priced 2.0–3.0, depending on team style.
Is 2Up worth running weekly?
Yes — it's one of the most reliable +EV reload structures across a football season.
Can I 2Up multiple matches simultaneously?
Yes, though each requires its own qualifier and lay. Diversifying across three fixtures per weekend smooths variance.
